Stingrays Power Past ‘Blades 4-2

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays scored three power play goals to defeat the Florida Everblades at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon. The Everblades winning streak ends at five games
The Everblades got on the board first by taking advantage of a power play opportunity. After a shorthanded scoring chance by South Carolina that went for not, Ryan McGinnis stretch a pass down the ice to Brayden Irwin. Irwin curled around and flipped a shot on goal from the slot which was stopped by Rays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis. The rebound bounced around in the crease and found the stick of Matthew Pistilli who buried the puck into the net for the goal.
South Carolina evened the score with a power play goal of their own at 16:20 of the opening frame. Former Everblades defenseman Kevin Quick carried the puck to the circle and centered a pass to wide open Phil Mangan in the low slot. Mangan immediately redirected the puck past Nagle for the tying goal to put the score at 1-1 after the first period.
In the second the Stingrays continued to find success on the power play. Luka Vidmar flipped the puck toward the net, which as grabbed by Chris Langkow who steered the puck past Nagle for the go-ahead goal to the Rays a 2-1 advantage.
Nearly six minutes later, the Rays extended their lead catching the ‘Blades in the midst of a line change. Ryan Hayes received a pass in front and switched to the backhand and flipped a shot past Nagle for the goal to put the score at 3-1.
Florida was not able to generate much offense in the third, as Jakaitis continued to make all of the saves down the stretch. The Rays added an empty net goal from Hunter Bishop with 90 seconds remaining to extend the lead to 4-1.
Moments later Charles Landry scored a goal on a slapshot from the point with 48 seconds remaining, but it would not be enough as the Stingrays held on for the 4-2 win.
Florida returns home to open up a five game homestand beginning on Saturday, January 26, 7:00 p.m. against the Greenville Road Warriors. Every Saturday game is Family Night.
