ESTERO, FL --Florida Everblades President and General Manager Craig Brush along with Head Coach Greg Poss announced Monday that the team has agreed to terms with forward Matt Marquardt for the 2015-16 season.
Marquardt, 28, enters his fourth season with the Everblades after posting 33 points (18g, 15a) in 40 regular season games last season, while also recording seven points in 12 playoff appearances. Prior to re-joining the Everblades last January, Marquardt logged 20 points (8g, 12a) in 37 games played with Germany’s Kaufbeuren ESV (DEL-2).
“We are excited to have Matt back with us for the upcoming season,” said Everblades Head Coach Greg Poss. “Matt was a leader for us when we won the championship back in 2012, and we will look for him to continue that leadership both on and off the ice this year.”
The 6-3, 229-pound winger registered 13 points in 61 appearances with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) during the 2013-14 season.
Marquardt has totaled 92 points (42g, 50a) in 122 regular season games with the Everblades from 2011-2015. He played a key role in the Everblades’ 2012 Kelly Cup Championship run registering 18 points (6g, 12a) in 18 playoff appearances. In addition, he scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead Florida to a 4-3 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers in Game 3 of the Kelly Cup Finals. He was originally acquired by the Everblades in a trade with Bakersfield on January 6, 2012
The North Bay, Ontario, native has accumulated 65 points (26g, 39a) in 268 games played in the American Hockey League in stints with Providence (2008-2010),Springfield (2010), Oklahoma City (2010-2011), and Charlotte (2012-2014).
He amassed 164 points during his junior career with the Moncton Wildcats (2005-08) and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar (2008) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Marquardt was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the seventh-round of the 2006NHL Entry Draft. He becomes the ninth player added to the Everblades’ roster for the upcoming season.
