ESTERO, Fla. - The Florida Everblades are back on home ice tonight, November 9, at 7 p.m. for the second of back-to-back games against the Orlando Solar Bears. Tonight marks the second of 13 scheduled games between the teams and after a 2-0 loss, the Blades are eager to turn the tide.
Despite leading in shots in the first two frames, the Blades struggled to gain and maintain momentum in Orlando’s territory. In turn, Solar Bear Darik Angeli capitalized early to solidify a 1-0 lead. The lead was soon extended by another goal at the 14:07 mark in the second period just six seconds into a man advantage over the Blades. Ending the second period stagnant in a two-goal deficit, the Blades claimed three of seven penalties that took place in the game thus far.
With Orlando holding an 11-8 edge in shots and the Blades facing three powerplay opportunities, both teams went scoreless in the third.
Goaltender Will Cranely’s undefeated streak came to an end, now with a record of 2-1-0 after turning away 23 of 25 shot attempts from Orlando. In contrast, opposing goaltender Michael Simpson recorded 25 saves to earn his first professional career shutout. By the final whistle, the Blades obtained 10 total penalty minutes from five interferences against Orlando’s 16 penalty minutes from eight interferences for a total of 11 infractions between the teams.
Military Night is set for tonight where the Blades will feature their special military jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned, with proceeds supporting the National Coalition for Patriots (NCFP). Fans attending the game can also take home a military-themed jersey, courtesy of the NCFP.
Puck drop is at 7 p.m. in The Swamp where the Blades will look to knot their three-game series at 1-1.
