ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades come out of the Christmas break with a matchup against the Orlando Solar Bear, the first of three clashes at Hertz Arena to end 2024. The schedule resumes on Friday, December 27 at 7:30 p.m. on home ice.
The Everblades entered the holiday pause off a tough 4-1 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays. South Carolina scored four unanswered goals in the third period for the win in a violent game that saw 185 combined penalty minutes. Defenseman Sean Allen landed himself a three-game suspension for his role in a final-minute brawl.
Orlando also played the Stingrays in their last game, but things were decided better for them with a 5-0 victory. Five different players scored and netminder Alexis Gravel made an ECHL season-high 52 saves for his first professional shutout. The Solar Bears enter tonights game on a modest two-game winning streak.
Florida holds a 3-2 record against the Solar Bears this season, winning the most recent meeting 4-1 on December 13 in Orlando. Carson Gicewicz leads the Everblades with five points (two goals, three assists) in matchups versus Orlando this season, with Logan Lambdin right behind him with four goals. Anthony Bardaro and Spencer Kersten pace their club with three points (two goals, one assist) in games against Florida this year. Both Cam Johnson and Michael Simpson have pitched shutouts against the other team in the season series this year.
Gicewicz, who scored the only Florida goal in Saturday’s loss, and Marc-Andre Gaudet both enter action tonight on five-game point streaks. Logan Lambdin has nine points across a six-game home point streak.
The Everblades hold an 8-3-0-0 record on home ice this year, while the Solar Bears stand 9-6-2-0 in hostile territory. Florida sits first in the ECHL and South Division with a record of 18-6-2-0 this year, while the Solar Bears reside in fourth place in the South Division at 13-13-4-0 entering tonight’s matchup. Orlando has played the most hockey of any team this season, already through 30 games of their schedule.
