ESTERO, Fla. – Coming off a 2-0 shutout victory behind Will Cranley on Saturday, the Florida Everblades are hoping to complete a two-game series sweep of the Savannah Ghost Pirates and defeat the team’s newest South Division rival for a fourth-straight game on Sunday.

One day after suffering a hard-luck shootout loss in South Carolina Friday afternoon, the Everblades rode Cranley’s second shutout of the season and got goals from ECHL Midseason All-Star Carson Gicewicz and Isaac Nurse in Saturday’s victory.

The Everblades enter Sunday’s matinee – the team’s third afternoon game in three days – looking to extend a three-game winning streak over the Ghost Pirates. After dropping a 2-1 decision to Savannah on January 15 at Hertz Arena, the Everblades have been perfect versus the newest team in the ECHL’s South Division, capturing 5-2 and 5-3 wins over the Pirates on January 17 and 18 prior to Saturday’s clean sheet victory. 

Since dropping that one-goal game to Savannah, the Blades are 3-0-0-1 in four games, earning seven of a possible eight points. In fact, since suffering a 4-1 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays on December 21, Florida has compiled a 9-2-1-1 record with both regulation losses in that 12-game span coming by just one goal. In those past 12 games, first-place Florida has claimed 20 of a possible 24 points in the league standings.

With Saturday’s game-winning goal, Gicewicz now leads all Everblades with three goals and five points in the season series versus Savannah. Will Cranley has won both of his starts in the series, posting a 2.00 GAA and a .953 save percentage. ECHL Midseason All-Star Cam Johnson is seeking his second win over the Ghost Pirates, as he sports a 1-0-1-0 mark with a 2.54 GAA.

Florida leads the season series 3-1, with Sunday’s game marking the first of seven more games between the clubs the rest of the way. The final four games will be played on Hertz Arena ice. 

The Everblades return to The Swamp on Friday, January 31 for a meeting with the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:30 p.m., the first of a three-game set between the clubs that moves to Orlando for games on Saturday, February 1 and Sunday, February 2. Friday’s game will be Affiliation Night as the Blades pay tribute to our new NHL affiliate, the St. Louis Blues.
