The Everblades enter Thursday’s game with two straight victories to open the four-game road trip, thanks to a 4-2 win in Orlando on Saturday and a 5-1 Wednesday in Greenville. Savannah, on the other hand, sports a 1-5-3-1 mark in its last 10 games with five of those hard-luck losses coming by just one goal.
In the season series with the Ghost Pirates, which will include another two games in Savannah on April 4-5, Florida holds a 5-2 record and a 25-15 scoring edge through the first seven meetings. While the Ghost Pirates won the last meeting 6-2 at Hertz Arena on March 14, the Blades are a perfect 2-0 in the Hostess City this season, posting back-to-back shutouts by an 8-0 combined margin on January 25-26.
Will Cranley posted 21 saves in a 2-0 victory in the first of those two games, while Cam Johnson followed with a 19-save clean sheet in a 6-0 victory the next day. Johnson sports a 3-1 mark and a 1.76 GAA versus Savannah this season, while Cranley is 2-1 with a 2.35 GAA.
Over the first seven meetings with the Ghost Pirates this season, a total of 24 different Everblades have notched at least one point, including netminder Johnson who picked up an assist in the Blades’ 4-2 win on March 12. Carson Gicewicz leads the Everblades with five goals, while his seven points matches Colin Theisen for the team lead. Alex Kile’s five assists is tops on the club in the season series.
On the playoff front, the Everblades (41-13-7-1) remain in a tight race to earn the top seed in the South Division, as they sit in second place with 90 points, just one point behind South Carolina (43-14-3-2) which leads the division with 91 points. Both teams have just 10 regular-season games left on the schedule. Jacksonville finds itself in third place with 84 points, six behind the Everblades, while fourth-place Orlando has 76 points and a sizeable lead over the rest of the pack, including sixth-place Savannah.
Following the two games in Savannah, the Everblades will open a three-game homestand at Hertz Arena on Wednesday, March 26 versus the Jacksonville Icemen at 7:30 p.m. Visit floridaeverblades.com for more information and to purchase tickets.
